Britons 'faced torture' in Pakistan.

Britons 'faced torture' in Pakistan
The Government has been accused of "doing nothing" to help two British citizens who were allegedly tortured by Pakistani police in a bid to extract confessions from them.

Naheem Hussain, 24, and Rehan Zaman, 25, are currently being held in a Pakistani jail where they face execution after being arrested in 2004.

Human rights group Reprieve said the men, both from Birmingham, were "brutally tortured" in order for confessions to be gained and called for the Foreign Office to immediately step in and come to their aid.
Reprieve said Mr Zaman, Mr Hussain and his father, Fazal, 56, underwent "medieval" torture at the hands of the police to obtain false confessions.
The trio were arrested in June 2004 following a land dispute in Kashmir which resulted in two people being shot.
Fazal Hussain told a press conference in central London that the police tortured the three men for 13 days, demanded money and then still demanded confessions.
Mr Hussain said his family had gone to the British authorities for help shortly after the arrests, but it had not been forthcoming.
He escaped back to the UK after being released on bail after becoming dangerously ill following the alleged torture.
Clive Stafford Smith, from Reprieve, said: "What we've heard today is another story of horrific torture, but this is in a different setting.
"We are not talking about this so-called war on terror - this is two young British lads who were tortured by the Pakistani police into giving a false statement in a death penalty case. It's very clear that the British Government needs to intervene immediately and with great vigour to make sure that these guys get treated fairly and brought home to Britain in another way."

We are photographers not terrorists. London 16-2-2009.

Photographers, amateur and professional, meet outside New Scotland Yard in London
16-2-2009, to exercise their right to take photos on the streets of police officers and buildings in line with their work and hobbies, as new anti-terror law comes into affect today.

Section 76 of the Counter Terrorism Act, which has now become law, could see photographers arrested for doing their job. Section 76 creates a new offence of eliciting, publishing or communicating information about the Armed Forces, intelligence services or police which may be of use to terrorists.

Omagh bomb meeting 'heated'

The families said the meeting had been heated at times,
A meeting between Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Omagh bomb families has been described as "heated".
They discussed claims in a BBC programme that intelligence agency, GCHQ, did not pass on information that could have helped in the investigation.
Michael Gallagher, who lost his son Aiden in the bombing, said the meeting had been "quite heated" at times.
"We made our views very clear. We felt the Government, the police service had failed the Omagh families," he said.
"In particular the Panorama programme raised questions that we felt Sir Peter and his review didn't answer."
But Mr Gallagher also said the prime minister "was very generous".
"He said that he didn't see any possibility of any criminal prosecutions - he would be prepared to change the law if he felt it would help - but felt that it wouldn't help," he said.
A Northern Ireland Office spokesperson said the prime minister had "listened carefully and said he would reflect on what he had heard".
In January, the Intelligence Services Commissioner, Sir Peter Gibson, said he found no evidence that information held by GCHQ could have prevented the August 1998 bomb.
Twenty-nine people were killed when a Real IRA car bomb exploded in the town.
